The forms of matter that can be living or inert are charged with the living force. The black monolith has a commanding presence, in conjunction with the steel plate behind the stone and the gold-plated thread that ties it to the plate, suggesting the tensions of skin shedding. They are moorings that intuitively allow the persistence of life processes that are being performed with forms of matter that are not normally associated with living forms. Give expressiveness to what we normally perceive as inert, the stone. Artifice and experience of the real alternate and leave us in a world of paradoxes.
